Acne Medicine - How Much is to Much?

Dear Skin Care Expert,

I have really severe acne and now I’m using a great medication that seems to be offering some results – finally. Can I start using more of the product or using it more frequently during the day to help speed up the process of clearing up my acne problem?  - Impatient in Iowa

Dear Impatient,

In this case, your impatience is only going to cause you problems. NO! You should never start to use an acne medication more frequently than it is prescribed and you should never use more than you are supposed to either. It is important that you only use your acne medication as your dermatologist has instructed or as the instruction on the package tell you to. If you begin using more of topical acne medications than you have been told to, you can actually cause a variety of skin problems. This could cause skin irritation, follicular plugging, and redness, all of which can actually make it take longer for your skin to clear up. If you really want to see the quickest possible results for your acne problem, on use the medications exactly as directed. Also, if you take oral medications for your acne, you should never take more of those either or you run a greater risk of dealing with side effects from the medication.
