La Mer Skin Care Products

La Mer Skin Care Product Review
Rating: ★★☆☆☆

More than 35 years ago now La Mer skin care products first started to evolve. Max Huber was burned and started on a quest to find something to smooth over the appearance of his burns. After working for 12 years and going through thousands of experiments, finally he came across a formula that began to work for him. Basically he combined ingredients such as sea kelp, various vitamins, wheat germ, calcium, alfalfa, iron, and potassium, and used a special process to create what is now called “The Broth.” This broth is now the foundation of all the skin products that La Mer produces.

A Variety of La Mer Products

There are a variety of skin care products that are offered by the La Mer Company. They offer lotions, creams, eye balm, lip balm, cleansing lotions and fluids, sunscreens, body serum, body lotion, and even a special powder. Of all these skin care products that are offered, probably the most well known and most often purchased product that the sell is the Crème de la Mer. This cream is supposed to be a very intense skin care product that helps to get rid of scars, wrinkles, blemishes, lines, and even dark circles under your eyes. In order to use the cream, you are to warm the cream in your hands before you actually apply it to your skin, since it is very rich and thick.

An Astounding Price

While we are taking a look specifically at Crème de la Mer, the price that this product commands is definitely of interest. For only one ounce of this cream you will find yourself having to shell out $125. Make that two ounces and you’ll be paying $220. They also offer the cream in a 16.5 ounce container as well; however, to get this size you will be out a whopping $1350, just for a moisturizing cream. It is definitely easy to see why this product is one that mainly caters to people who have quite a bit of money.

Is it Worth It?

With such a high price, you definitely have to wonder if the product is really worth these exorbitant prices. Well, some people seem to think so, while there are others who have been more than disappointed with the results of the Crème de la Mer. There have been some reports of this product doing great things, such as helping to improve the appearance of scars or getting rid of fine lines and wrinkles. On the other hand, some have reported that the cream did nothing at all, and there have also been a few bad stories of this cream making skin problems even worse. So, it seems that there are mixed emotions when it comes to La Mer skin care products.

The Science Behind La Mer

More than likely, if you are like me, you are going to want to see some science about the La Mer products before you dig into your savings to pay for their skin care products. I would love to see some research and clinical studies that showed how their “Miracle” product really worked. The only problem with that – is that there are none. There is no science backing up the product, no studies done, and no clinical studies to take a look at. The company actually states that they really don’t know how the product works, and they merely refer to it as a “Miracle.” So, when it comes to science, this product really strikes out.

All in all, I actually find it quite difficult to believe that people are continuing to spend such outrageous amounts on skin care products that are not proven and that have no real research around them. However, I find that the ingredients are quality ones, and you can’t dispute with the buyers who have said this product has really changed their lives. So, does the product work for some? Well, it seems so; however, there are quite a few people who see no change or even negative affects as well. I really feel that the bottom line with the La Mer skin care products is their lack of science and their seeming lack of concern with finding science to prove why their products work. They seem content with dubbing their products as “Miracle” products, and I find myself rather hesitant to lay down hundreds of dollars for products with no explanation but the word, “Miracle.”

Do you agree or disagree?  Let me know, leave your thoughts.
