What To Do About Acne Along Hair Line

shampoo girl.jpgDear Skin Care Expert,

While I have been able to control acne breakouts on most of my face, I still have problems with acne appearing all along my hairline. Is there something causing this problem and what can I do to get rid of this embarrassing acne problem?   - Frustrated in Florida

Dear Frustrated,

Believe it or not, you’re not the only one who deals with acne around the hairline – it’s actually quite common. Usually this type of an acne problem is actually caused by fatty acids and sebum that is generated in the scalp, which ends up on the forehead, causing unsightly breakouts. There is help for you!

What you need to do is to start shampooing your hair on a more regular basis – in fact everyday is a good idea. You may also want to change shampoos and go for a shampoo that is designed specifically for people who are dealing with oily hair. Even though you may not think you have oily hair, you’ll find that this shampoo will help to reduce the fatty acids as well as the sebum in your scalp.

Also, when you go through your facial cleansing routines, make sure that you aren’t missing the area around your hairline as well. Between the extra shampooing and attention to the hairline area, you should find that this acne problem clears up in a few weeks if you stick to the plan.
